Bangkok in National Geographic’s 2025 Best of the World List

Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, Governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), expressed pride over Bangkok’s recognition in National Geographic’s prestigious annual list of remarkable travel destinations. “We are honored that Bangkok has been featured in National Geographic’s list of awe-inspiring places. The city’s vibrant energy, iconic street food, magnificent temples, and lively markets make it a standout choice for travelers seeking both adventure and relaxation,” she said. This recognition adds to Thailand’s numerous tourism accolades, underscoring its status as a premier global travel destination.

National Geographic’s selection of Bangkok as one of the Best of the World 2025 followed a comprehensive nomination, research, and evaluation process conducted by a team of travel specialists and the editorial teams at Nat Geo Traveller worldwide. Their insights, shared with millions of readers across magazines and digital platforms, played a key role in identifying Bangkok as an essential travel destination for 2025.

The official announcement, published on October 22, 2024, at NatGeo.com/BestOfTheWorld under the title “The 25 Best Places in the World to Travel to in 2025,” highlights Bangkok as a must-visit city where visitors can “Explore a temple reborn.” National Geographic praised the city as a captivating fusion of old and new, where gleaming skyscrapers coexist with luxury malls like Siam Center and upscale hotels such as Innside by Meliá Sukhumvit.

Bangkok’s expanding role as a cultural and artistic hub also drew attention, with special mention of popular events like the Bangkok Art Biennale and the Bangkok International Film Festival. The emerging Bang Rak neighborhood was noted for its growing significance in the art and design scene, further cementing Bangkok’s appeal as a destination with diverse cultural attractions.

National Geographic also highlighted Bangkok’s proximity to significant historical sites, such as Wat Chaiwatthanaram, a 17th-century Buddhist temple in Ayutthaya. This important monument has been undergoing extensive restoration after flood damage in 2011, with recent preservation efforts including 3D laser scanning and the construction of a flood wall. The aim is to preserve the temple as an educational site, allowing visitors to connect with Thailand’s rich cultural heritage.
