Thailand simplifies the citizenship process for long-term

While the screening and evaluation of applications may take up to a year, a significant improvement has been made in the final approval stage, which has now been expedited to just five days. The Ministry of Interior has identified specific groups that are eligible for this new citizenship opportunity. This includes approximately 120,000 settlers who arrived in Thailand between 1984 and 1999, as well as another 215,000 individuals who settled in the country between 2005 and 2011, along with their Thai-born children. By recognizing these groups, the Thai government acknowledges the contributions and sacrifices made by these individuals, many of whom have lived in Thailand for decades.

To qualify for citizenship, applicants must ensure that their names are included on household registration documents, possess a 13-digit identification card, and pledge loyalty to Thailand. Additionally, they must respect the nation’s democratic system and demonstrate that they are unable to return to their country of origin.
