Thailand Fruit Season Prices 2023
October 25, 2024

Thailand’s fruit season draws to a close this year, a remarkable increase in the prices of popular fruits, including durian, mangosteen, rambutan, longkong, and mango, has been observed. This surge is largely attributed to extensive planning and proactive measures implemented before the season began, which have contributed to a successful and prosperous harvest period for these highly sought-after fruits.
Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan emphasized the importance of these advance preparations, noting that they played a crucial role in stabilizing the market and meeting consumer demand. He highlighted that the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) took a proactive approach in 2024, closely monitoring both the production and pricing of fruits to ensure optimal outcomes for growers, traders, and consumers alike. This vigilant oversight has allowed for more effective management of supply and demand, as well as timely adjustments to maintain balance in the market, ultimately resulting in this year’s successful season.
As the fruit season concludes, prices have increased across all major fruit categories, signaling a positive outcome that has been attributed to the comprehensive 2024 fruit management plan. This strategic plan, designed to strengthen Thailand’s fruit market, featured six core measures and 25 targeted initiatives specifically aimed at boosting production, stabilizing prices, and expanding both domestic and international market reach.
Preparations for this fruitful season were initiated well in advance. Upon taking office, Commerce Minister Pichai Naripthaphan prioritized an intensive approach to market development, focusing on three critical areas. Firstly, he worked to expand Thailand’s domestic market by promoting local fruit consumption and ensuring availability across more regions. Secondly, he actively pursued export opportunities in emerging global markets, aiming to increase Thailand’s fruit exports to new regions with growing demand. Finally, recognizing the need to add value to raw produce, Pichai encouraged the processing and transformation of fruits, enabling value-added products that could yield higher returns.
Through these well-orchestrated efforts, the 2024 management plan has not only driven market success but also laid the foundation for Thailand’s fruit sector to thrive in the years to come. This approach highlights a balanced strategy of promoting local and international demand while encouraging innovation in Thailand’s fruit industry, ensuring that both producers and consumers benefit from a robust, resilient market.
This fruitful season has brought prosperity to Thai farmers, who have enjoyed high prices and increased earnings. Commerce Minister Pichai has instructed the Department of Internal Trade (DIT) to begin preparing initiatives for next year’s fruit season, with a focus on increasing production and processing, expanding markets domestically and internationally, improving trade efficiency, easing trade logistics, and applying regulatory measures where necessary.
Once these initiatives are finalized, discussions will take place with key government agencies and private sector representatives to ensure they are seamlessly incorporated into the 2025 fruit management plan.
Eastern Thailand has wrapped up its fruit season, reporting improved prices across all fruit categories. In the southern region, the season is nearly finished, with 98.6% of the durian crop already harvested. Similarly, northern Thailand is approaching the end of its season, as mango production has been completed.
Between January and August 2024, Thailand exported 1.4 million tonnes of fresh fruit, generating a value of 150 billion baht. China continues to be the leading export market, benefiting from its strong purchasing power and increasing imports. Additionally, other emerging markets like South Korea, Hong Kong, and Malaysia have also shown a rise in their imports of fresh Thai fruit, according to a report by Bangkok Post.
